Luke 12:16-21 I’ve always daydreamed of what it would be like to be rich. Even as a kid, I would make a mental list of all the cool things I would buy. I would dream of putting a roller coaster in my backyard like in the Richie Rich movie from the 90’s. Today I think about how awesome it would be to pay off the house or knock out my student loans. We all want to be rich, but we sometimes forget that we are already rich. God has given us so much that we sometimes forget how truly blessed we already are. In the story, God had allowed the rich man to have a lot of stuff. God isn’t against people having stuff. The rich man went wrong when he assumed that the wealth he gather was for him. He viewed life through a selfish lense that was about what he could do to have more stuff for himself. He made plans, but his plans quickly disappeared. God blesses us so we can share our life with the people He has put around us. He created us to need people. We need family, we need friends, and we need biblical community. We aren’t designed to do life alone. God wants us to not only lean on other people but also to invest in other people. We need to be rich in relationships so we can have others to help us and so we can help others. When we have true friendships, we have people that can share life with through the thick and thin. That’s being truly rich. // TWO-A-DAYS // GO A LITTLE FARTHER WITH YOUR DAILY DEVOTIONS // Go through these questions with your spouse, kids, or friend, or you can even journal about the answers to these questions:
- What was the best part of your day?
- What was the toughest part of your day?
- Where did you mess up today?
- Where did you see God today?
