4 x 6 Plan | Read: Matthew 22:34-46 & Ephesians 4:25-32

Jesus replied, “‘You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. A second is equally important: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ The entire law and all the demands of the prophets are based on these two commandments.” (Matthew 22:37-40)

Have you ever wondered what it means to truly love God and others?

In Matthew 22:34-46, Jesus summarizes all the Law and Commandments of God in a really simple way.   He says, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself'” (Matthew 22:37-39). In these two commandments, Jesus encapsulates the entire law and the prophets.  Notice the last part though..The “entire law and all the demands”.  Even as simple as that is, we still can’t meet it’s demands.

The good news is that Jesus not only affirmed the command to love God and others but also introduced a new commandment: to love one another as He has loved us (John 15:12). This royal law of love encompasses all other commandments and reveals the heart of Christ’s teachings.  The beauty of the royal law lies not in our ability to fulfill it, but in the grace of Jesus Christ, who perfectly embodied this love. He came to fulfill the law, not to abolish it (Matthew 5:17). Through His life, death, and resurrection, Jesus accomplished what we could never achieve on our own.

We are invited into a relationship with Jesus, where His grace empowers us to love God and others. As we abide in Him, His love transforms us from the inside out, enabling us to love selflessly, forgive unconditionally, and extend grace generously.

It is essential to understand that the fulfillment of the royal law is not a result of our efforts, but a reflection of Christ’s work in us. It is His grace that enables us to love as He loves. Our role is to surrender to His transformative power and allow His love to flow through us.
