Read James 3:2-10
If you’re anything like me, you don’t take compliments or criticism very well. I don’t like when someone says something nice to me or about me because it’s slightly embarrassing to me. Not only that, but I also quickly forget whatever compliment was given. In contrast, I take any criticism or negative comment to heart and can focus on it to the point where it makes me miserable. In fact, you can say all kind of nice things to a person, but, if you say even just one thing that could be interpreted as negative, all the person will focus on is the negative things and not the positive.
This is because how you talk matters. One negative comment can negate ten positive comments because of the power of our words, especially if they are critical or negative.
Do you more often criticize or encourage? Are you typically negative or positive? It’s not only about what you say, it is about how you say it.
