It’s amazing how quickly David’s sin grew from lust to adultery to murder. This tragic episode in David’s life shows the destructive nature of sin. Sin turned David from a life of love and obedience to doing whatever he could to save his own hind end. He tried to cover up his sin by tricking Uriah, but Uriah was too honorable of a man for that. So, David had Uriah killed in batter. To accomplish that, he had to jeopardize the battle and other soldiers in the army. David had done so many things right in his life, but his sin caused him to take actions that were calculated and selfish. Sin keeps us from showing love and thinking of others before ourselves. It turns us inward. Spend time today asking God to forgive you for trying to rationalize your sin, making excuses for it, or trying to cover it up, and ask Him to help you focus on actions that show love and not just looking out for yourself.
