Hezekiah made worship of the Lord a priority while he was king of Israel. One of his first acts as king was to clean up the temple. Not only did he clean up the building, he told the Levites, the priests, to purify themselves as well. He wanted to take anything spiritually impure out of the temple. By doing this, Hezekiah went against the precedence of his family who went before Him. People around us, and family that have gone before us, can have an incredible influence on us. However, God’s influence should be greater. Hezekiah turned out very different from him immediate ancestors because he followed God instead of their example. Ask God to help you to follow Him and other good examples instead of the bad examples in your life. Also, ask God to help you be a good example to those around you.
