Read Ephesians 6:10-18 I have never been into zombies or scary movies or anything like that. Until recently. A few years ago, a few friends convinced me to start watching the show, The Walking Dead. As I’ve watched this show about a zombie apocalypse, I often laugh because I realize I have zero skills that would help me or anyone else survive in a situation like that. Luckily, I don’t truly believe it will happen, so I still haven’t done anything to prepare myself to find food in any other way than driving to a drive thru. Unlike some people. If you want to be entertained, search “zombie survival” on youtube. These people prepare like a zombie apocalypse is coming because they believe it’s going to happen. In the famous passage talking about putting on the armor of God, Paul wants to prepare us for the spiritual attacks we all should be expecting to face in our lives. He wants us to be able to stand firm in our faith in the face of hardships, temptations, and evil done against us. He tells us to prepare with truth, righteousness, the gospel, faith, our salvation, and prayer. Basically, Paul tells us to prepare for attacks against us by turning toward God. Remembering the things he has done for us, learning more about Him, and drawing closer to Him whether through prayer, reading His word, or by building our relationships with Him. With God’s help, we can still be standing when things get tough. The problem is that very few of us prepare the right way, so, when we do face the “flaming arrows of the evil one.” We either allow the fear of what might happen in the future to paralyze us from doing anything wrong, or we don’t do anything because we don’t really believe we will be under attack. What’s your expectations about the future? According to God’s word, it’s not that we won’t face hardships or that there’s no hope. Instead, our expectation should be that there will be hard times ahead, but there’s hope because, through it all, God will help us stand if we rely on Him. REFLECT: Do you ever find yourself bracing for or expecting hardship? How do you manage the tension of remaining hopeful in moments that you know are going to be difficult? PRAY: Talk about the fears and worries you have of the future with God today. Tell Him that you want to learn to prepare for hardships not by letting them overwhelm you but by trusting that He’s got your back. If you’re doing the #fearless challenge, skip one meal today and spend that time praying for other people. // TWO-A-DAYS // GO A LITTLE FARTHER WITH YOUR DAILY DEVOTIONS // Go through these questions with your spouse, kids, or friend, or you can even journal about the answers to these questions:
- What was the best part of your day?
- What was the toughest part of your day?
- Where did you mess up today?
- Where did you see God today?
