Read: Luke 15:11-32

We interact with stories on every day. We meet strangers and ask where they’re from, how they got here and what they do for a living. We hear eye witness accounts of the day’s events on the evening news. We call old friends to get an update on what’s happening in their lives. Through these stories, we not only learn about events and circumstances, but also about the storyteller’s personality and character. The details the storyteller includes tells you something about what they value. While the Bible contains many types of literature, most of the Bible is written in narratives. In her commentary on the book of Esther, Karen Jobes writes, “Biblical stories written under God’s inspiration tell us about God and his relationship with his people. We read biblical narratives with the implied request, ‘God, tell us your story.’” Whether we are reading about God’s interaction with the Israelites or one of Jesus’s parables, God wants to reveal who He is through the stories in the Bible. As you read today, allow God to show you His character through His stories.]]>
