Moses was frustrated and furious when he came down from his time with God to find the people worshipping the golden calf. In disgust, he threw down the holy tablets, tossed the calf into the fire, ground it into powder, and make the Israelites drink the whole nasty thing. Once he calmed down, Moses turned to God to pray for the people. He was ready to move on, but Moses needed to be reminded of why all of this was worth the trouble – God’s glory. Moses asked God to show him His glory, and God allowed Moses to see just part of it. It’s easy to burn out when we lose sight of the big picture – when we get the idea that our efforts are for our own comfort, security or glory. If we’re going to have the strength to carry on, we will need to step back and see that it’s all for God. Spend some time praying today to ask God to help you keep focused on the why behind what you do.
