Read: Philippians 4:6
Praying is oftentimes made out to be complicated or treated like it requires some special code to do it right. Prayer involves talking and listening. It’s not hard, however, it is never going to happen by accident. All the things we are talking about for spiritual growth have to be intentional.
Talk – Prayer is talking to God, and there’s nothing more powerful than asking for God’s help. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done.
Listen – Talking to God isn’t a one-way street – He wants to talk to us, too. Take time to learn His voice and listen to His direction for you. During prayer slow down and quiet yourself. Ask God if there is anything He wants to show you. If Praying still seems awkward to you, try this simple model using the P.R.A.Y acronym for the next month.
P – PRAISE Start by praising God: telling Him who He is to you and what you are thankful for. This will get your heart in the right place as you begin connecting with God in prayer.
R – REPENT Next, admitting to God your faults and allowing him to convict you of the things that are wrong in your life.
A – ASK The requests part are what most people think of when they envision prayer. What are you asking God to do in your life?
Y – YIELD. The final step is to spend some time yielding to God: what do you feel that God is asking you to do or surrender to HIm?
Text the Daily: What would be a good time and place for you to pray?
Journal Question: Think of one other person to pray for (e.g. a family member or friend) and pray for them.
Prayer Starter: Jesus, thank you for listening to my prayers. I give my prayers to you and believe you will answer them.
