Daniel Week Six, Day Four Read Daniel 6:19-23 If you know me very well at all, you know that I’ve always struggled with my weight. I’ll go through several months where I’ll get down to a healthy weight and then go through several months where my weight is anything but healthy. I’ve found that, when I focus on the weight, I don’t do very well. It’s when I focus on being consistent with a routine of eating healthy and exercising consistently that I find success. Sure, you have to have a goal, but the best way to get to your goal is by committing to a consistent routine. The king had trouble sleeping all night because of the guilt he felt for throwing Daniel into the den of lions. As soon as morning hit, the king rushed to the lion’s den. He shouted for Daniel to see if God had rescued him. The king had to be so relieved when he heard Daniel’s voice yelling back at him. Daniel replied with honor toward the king and explained that God had sent angels to shut the mouths of the hungry lions because he had been found innocent by God. The king was ecstatic to that Daniel had survived the night and ordered that Daniel be lifted up out of the den of lions. As Daniel was lifted out, there wasn’t a single would found on him because he had trusted in God. The Bible makes it clear that Daniel’s life had been spared because of his trust and devotion to God. The monotonous routine he had of praying three times a day even when things were going well for him had paid off. This type of monotonous process can seem unappealing, but it’s the only way to truly experience lasting change. So much of what we think happens because of luck or coincidence can actually be achieved through a monotonous commitment to a good routine. If we want to get in shape, we can’t weasel out of monotonous commitment to diet and exercise. If we want to grow spiritually, we cannot miss being committed to things like Bible reading, prayer, and worship. REFLECT: What place or situation is it the most difficult for you to stand up for your faith? Why? PRAY: Talk to God about some of your struggles with being consistent with things like Bible reading, prayer, and worship? Ask God to help you become more consistent. // TWO-A-DAYS // GO A LITTLE FARTHER WITH YOUR DAILY DEVOTIONS // Go through these questions with your spouse, kids, or friend, or you can even journal about the answers to these questions:
- What was the best part of your day?
- What was the toughest part of your day?
- Where did you mess up today?
- Where did you see God today?
