Read Ecclesiastes 5:18-20

I have always loved the TV show MacGyver. The main character in the show would always find himself in impossible situations. Just when the situation seemed hopeless, he would look around and find something that would help him escape. He would never pick normal things you’d think of when planning an escape. He would always use random, everyday objects to figure out a way out of his predicament. He would use something created for another purpose in a way it was never intended to work to benefit him.

We are often like reverse-MacGyvers when it comes to our appetites and desired. God created our appetites and gave us our desires. He did this, so we would use them His way and for His purposes. However, we take those appetites and desires and use them in ways they were never intended to be used. Unlike MacGyver, though, we don’t change them into something Good, we distort the desires God has given us and use them in selfish ways. We use them for our own self-centered purposes instead of God’s purposes. We have taken something that God has given us to enrich our lives and the lives of others around us, and we’ve turned it into something that will destroy us.

Instead of distorting the desires God has given you, use them to serve others and the glory of God.
