Read Ecclesiastes 2:24-26
I’ve always been a fast eater. If there is food in front of me, I will eat it quickly. It killed me as a kid because my sister would purposefully eat slow, so she would still be eating after I was done just to torture me. I never took time to enjoy my food because I was too busy consuming anything that was in sight. Not only did this cause a rapid expansion of my waistline, but I also found that I was never satisfied because I never truly enjoyed what I was eating.
Many of us do this with our lives. We are constantly pursuing the next big thing or trying to get more stuff in life. We don’t take time to enjoy what we have because we are so focused on getting more. Instead of being content with where we are, we spend our lives mindlessly pursuing things that will never truly satisfy us. If we would just slow down a little bit to enjoy life, many of us would finally see that what we already have is more than enough. Instead, like someone just stuffing more and more food down their throats even though they are full, we constantly pursue more and more in our lives when our soul is really craving God and His purpose for our life.
Do you mindlessly pursue more? Take time today to think about all the ways that God has blessed you in your life.
