Read  1 Samuel 17:17-24 Who knows what the Liner Notes are on a CD?  These are the descriptions of each song on a particular CD.  I love to learn the story behind a song. That story makes the song come alive for me. We have the greatest liner notes of all in the Word of God. It can bring meaning, understanding and encouragement to whatever we are going through. Today we are going to take a look at Pain’s Song. When the what if’s have taken hold, Pain’s Song is not far behind. It’s plan is to make us believe everything going on is our fault. It wants us to believe we are hurting ourselves or others. The longer we stay inside Pain’s Song, the weaker we become. Pain wants our attention off God and on how little we are.  Pain will use mental and/or physical attacks to tear us down.  Verse 4-7 gave a picture of Goliath, a man that size is going to inflict hurt. In verse 8. Goliath uses intimidation on the Israeli army. “Who are you to attack me?” Notice his removal of God, “…are you not the servants of Saul?”. “I am a Philistine and Saul is a little man”.  Forty days this mental onslaught happened and the result was no one would fight him.  When David steps up and steps out, Goliath started on him.  In verse 42, Goliath’s expression showed disdain and disgust for David. In verse 43, he even “smacktalks” David, “…am I a dog that you come to me with a stick?” and cussed him out as well. Finally in verse 48, Goliath was done talking and he got up to end David, Saul and Israel. What does pain do to you?  What reminders does pain bring up? The people you’ve hurt because of your choices? The job you lost because you are a failure? The relationship you can’t have because you are damaged? The addiction that is just too great because you are too weak? None of these are true but Satan, through fear and pain, want you to believe they are. They want you weak, helpless, bound and ineffective. If they are in control, we can not turn to God. Reflect We now know the arsenal of fear and pain’s purpose. When we focus only on our giants, we will stumble. God’s Word is clear: when you focus on me (God) your giants are powerless. Notice they are not gone but are powerless. Pray As you pray, continue to ask Him to show you who you are in Christ. Ask HIm to use His word as a shield in your life. Ask Him to use His word to remove fear and pain in you life. // TWO-A-DAYS // GO A LITTLE FARTHER WITH YOUR DAILY DEVOTIONS // Go through these questions with your spouse, kids, or friend, or you can even journal about the answers to these questions:

  1. What was the best part of your day?
  2. What was the toughest part of your day?
  3. Where did you mess up today?
  4. Where did you see God today?
