4 x 6 Plan | Read: John 4:46-54 & James 4:13-17
Then Jesus told him, “Go back home. Your son will live!” And the man believed what Jesus said and started home. (John 4:50)
Some people say: Trust nobody. Always be suspicious. And sometimes they are right…
But can you trust a promise? That’s not easy to do! Have you ever had a promise that was so huge, it took a lot of faith in that person to believe it would come true. In the story today of Jesus’ life, we find someone who is desperate.
An important person with a lot of power had a sick son. In desperation he goes to Jesus. Despite his status, he asks Jesus to heal his son. He might have expected that Jesus would go with him, give some medicine, or do something special. None of this happens. Jesus only speaks to him and gives him a promise. AND… the high official trusts Jesus. And he finds out later that his son was healed right at the moment Jesus spoke.
There are many promises Jesus makes…even to you. “Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out by religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.” Mattheus 11:28-30
