4 x 6 Plan | Read: Mark 14:43-52 & 2 Corinthians 7:1-16

Jesus asked them, “Am I some dangerous revolutionary, that you come with swords and clubs to arrest me? Why didn’t you arrest me in the Temple? I was there among you teaching every day. But these things are happening to fulfill what the Scriptures say about me.” (Mark 14:48-49)

First off, we have to talk about betrayal. Judas, one of Jesus’ own disciples, betrays Him with a kiss. Now, that’s not exactly the best way to treat a friend. We’ve all had our fair share of betrayals, maybe not with a kiss, but perhaps with a shady text or a backhanded comment. It’s important to remember that even Jesus experienced betrayal from someone close to Him.

Next, we have Peter’s attempt at defending Jesus with a sword. It’s like he forgot that Jesus had just healed a man’s ear a few minutes earlier. It’s a classic case of “shoot first, ask questions later.” We’ve all had moments where we acted impulsively without thinking things through. It’s a good reminder to slow down and think before we act.

Finally, we have the disciples fleeing in fear. Can you blame them? They just witnessed their friend and leader being arrested. But it’s also a reminder that when we face difficult situations, we can’t always rely on our own strength. We need to trust in God and seek His guidance and comfort.

So, what can we take away from this passage? Don’t betray your friends with a kiss, don’t pull a sword without thinking, and don’t run away from your problems. Instead, trust in God, seek His guidance, and rely on His strength.
