4 x 6 Plan | Read: Mark 10:35-45 & 2 Corinthians 1:1-11

But among you it will be different. Whoever wants to be a leader among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first among you must be the slave of everyone else. (Mark 10:43-44)

In this story, we see James and John struggling with their identity. They are seeking power, status, and recognition, and they think that these things will give them a sense of worth and value. But Jesus teaches them that true greatness does not come from position or status, but from service and sacrifice.

As we reflect on this passage, we are reminded of our own struggles with identity. We often look to the things of this world to define who we are and to give us a sense of worth and value. We seek success, fame, wealth, and power, thinking that these things will satisfy us and make us feel significant. But like James and John, we do not understand what we are asking for.

Thankfully, we serve a God who offers us a different way. God’s grace tells us that our identity is not found in our achievements or our possessions, but in our relationship with Him. We are loved and valued simply because we are His children. We do not need to earn our place or prove our worth; it has already been given to us through Christ.

God’s grace also calls us to a life of service and sacrifice. Like Jesus, we are called to love and serve others, putting their needs before our own. This is not always easy, but it is the path to true greatness. When we follow Jesus’ example, we find a sense of purpose and meaning that no amount of worldly success could ever provide.

As we meditate on this passage, let us be reminded of who we are in Christ. Let us lay aside our striving for worldly success and instead embrace a life of service and sacrifice. And let us give thanks for the amazing grace that has given us our true identity as beloved children of God..
