4 x 6 Plan | Read: Matthew 16:1-12 & Romans 14:1-12

One day the Pharisees and Sadducees came to test Jesus, demanding that he show them a miraculous sign from heaven to prove his authority. (Matthew 16:1)

Once upon a time, there was a person who was always searching for a sign from above. Whether it was deciding what to eat for breakfast or which socks to wear, they believed that a divine sign would guide them in every decision. One day, as they stood in front of the refrigerator, pondering their breakfast choices, they fervently prayed for a sign. Suddenly, a fly buzzed by, landing on the jar of peanut butter. Convinced that this was a celestial indication, they declared, “I shall have peanut butter toast!” They spread the peanut butter with great reverence, convinced that they were following the divine guidance of the universe. As they took their first bite, they realized… they didn’t even like peanut butter! It turned out that the sign they were so desperately seeking was just a hungry fly in need of a snack. In this really dumb (and bad) example, we are reminded that sometimes, the signs we seek may not be as profound or significant as we expect. Perhaps, instead of relying solely on external signs, we can trust in the wisdom and discernment that God has already placed within us.

In our journey of faith, it can be tempting to seek tangible proof or to base our belief on extraordinary experiences. But the gospel offers us a different faith perspective that goes beyond external signs. It assures us that our faith is not built on our ability to witness miracles, but on the unchanging love and grace of God. So today, let us shift our focus from seeking signs and external validation to embracing the transformative power of God’s grace. Let us trust in the unshakable foundation of His love for us. The gospel invites us to a deep, personal relationship with Jesus, where we can experience His presence and guidance in our lives. As we walk in faith and trust Him, He will lead us into a life of purpose, joy, and freedom. Let’s rest in the assurance that the gospel is not just about signs, but about the abounding grace of God that sustains us every step of the way.

The “Great” News of the Gospel | Romans 14:1-12

In Romans 14:1-12, we are reminded of the beautiful truth that the gospel is great news for everyone, regardless of our differences and preferences. In a world filled with judgment and division, this passage encourages us to embrace a love that transcends religious rules and external expectations. It reminds us that we are all beloved children of God, and our worth is not determined by our adherence to certain practices or traditions. Instead, the gospel reminds us that we are justified by faith in Christ alone, and it is His grace that empowers us to live in freedom and love. We are called to extend grace and acceptance to one another, recognizing that each person’s journey is unique and deserving of respect. In this way, the gospel becomes truly good news, liberating us from the burden of judgment and inviting us to live in unity, love, and mutual respect.
