Samuel was the one who appointed Israel’s two first and most famous kings. But, Samuel did not choose these men. He only announced God’s decision. With Saul, God gave the people exactly what they had asked for, a king that looked the part even though he wasn’t prepared to lead. When God replaced Saul, Samuel looked toward Jesse’s sons who looked the part liked Saul. But God had completely different priorities. David was strong and handsome like Saul, but he had one important difference. David’s heart was right with God. We often have no control over our size, looks, or other things the world focuses on, but we can do control the things that God prioritizes. God can use all of us. We can change our hearts and surrender them to Him. Spend time today asking God to help soften your heart toward him instead of focusing on what the world thinks of or sees in you.
