Daniel Week Three, Day Three Read Daniel 3:13-18 After the Babylonians pointed out to the king that Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego didn’t bow down and worship the giant statue of him as the king had ordered, Nebuchadnezzar threatened the three hebrews. He tells them that, if they will bow down and worship the statue the next time the music plays, everything will be fine. However, if they refuse, they will be thrown into a fiery furnace. The three boys stare down the king and tell them they will not bow down because their God was able to deliver them. What’s even more impressive, the three boys tell the king that even if God doesn’t come through for them, they still won’t bow down and worship the statue. Sometimes to truly follow Christ the way He’s called us to means that we have to be willing to be unconcerned with the thoughts and opinions of those around us. This can be tough, though, because sometimes this may cost us dearly. You can’t fear both God and man. You have to choose one or the other. It would have been easy for the three young men to simply pretend to worship or go hide during the next time the music played, but, instead, they chose to stand firm in their faith and trust that God would take care of them one way or the other. True faith obeys God and not other people. We can learn from others and get advice from people we trust, but, ultimately, we should be listening to God alone when it comes to how we live our lives. REFLECT: What do you admire most about the three men in the story so far? Why? PRAY: As you begin your prayer time today, take a few minutes to pray for the Christian throughout the world today who are being persecuted for standing up for God just like Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego were. // TWO-A-DAYS // GO A LITTLE FARTHER WITH YOUR DAILY DEVOTIONS // Go through these questions with your spouse, kids, or friend, or you can even journal about the answers to these questions:
- What was the best part of your day?
- What was the toughest part of your day?
- Where did you mess up today?
- Where did you see God today?
