Read: Galatians 5:17
Jesus commanded that we be baptized into the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. (Matt. 28:19). This is a baptism into a new identity. As believers, we are now sons and daughters of God and a part of his eternal family. With Jesus, the Son, now our king and Lord, we live as his servants in the world. As he served, we too should serve. Jesus said, “As the Father has sent me, I am sending you.” We now have the same Spirit living within us, sending us as missionaries into every context of life. Our identity in Christ makes us part of a family of missionary servants!
A KINGDOM LIFE LIVED ON MISSION IS REALLY ABOUT LIVING ORDINARY, EVERYDAY LIFE IN COMMUNITY, WITH GREAT GOSPEL INTENTIONALITY.
To be honest, most of us look at these three aspects of Kingdom life without much argument. We’ve talked about aspects of these ideas a hundred different ways, heard sermon after sermon, and have created an extensive array of programs to challenge believers to live accordingly. But truly integrating them into our lives rarely seems to happen. The reason for this is that there are real barriers to submitting our entire lives to living in a gospel community on mission. So if you really want to know why people just go to church without engaging the gospel in everyday life, you don’t need to look far. It’s not that the pace of the world is too fast or the forces of darkness are too great. It’s that we’re fighting against ourselves.
