Read: Matthew 25:34-46

Today is all about taking action! A key component of community is hospitality. In fact, one of the definitions of hospitality is to show friendship to a visitor. The idea of “brotherly love” as described in the New Testament actually means “to love outsiders as if they were our own brothers or sisters.”

Try a few of these to up your group’s hospitality:

Ask a few others in your community to come 15 minutes early. Have one of them answer the door. This will help people feel comfortable because it will provide them with the chance to get to know more people.

Always have some finger food, coffee, tea, or an assortment of drinks already laid out. Even if you’re doing a potluck style meal or dessert, always have something laid out. Often, new people to the community are the first ones to arrive. Having something for them to eat or drink often helps relieve their tension. It also helps to hold something, like a beverage, to alleviate nervous introductions.

Try to serve your guests. Ask what each person would like to drink and serve them personally instead of expecting them to serve themselves. You can invite them to help themselves once they’ve gained a level of comfort in your home.

Journal/Text Question: Do you like when people stop by your home? Would you be considered hospitable?

Prayer Starter: Jesus, help me to love, welcome and treat others like family.
