Read: John 20:19-22
Even though we’ve focused on incarnational community, the overarching reality is that you are a part of God’s Church worldwide. For some people, your incarnational community might be your local church. For others, your incarnational community will be a small group within a large organized church body like C3.
If you are part of an existing church but aren’t quite sure how to live in both worlds, we would say: relax. Realize that you are modeling and living out a missional express- ion of that church. Recognize that everyone is not at the same place in his or her spiritual journey. Learn to enjoy your freedom without expecting everyone else to follow.
The good news is that if the story of your community is strong, eventually a grassroots missional movement can spread to others in the larger church. In the meantime, realize that people will always be watching and learning from your journey. We suggest that you try not to over-think the issue of church. Just get on mission, and pray for those that are less eager to embrace change.
We would like to leave you with one of the great scenes in scripture…the day that Christ reappeared to his disciples after his crucifixion. At the time, they were confused, distraught, and not very confident about God’s work in their lives. To them, Jesus uttered this call: “As the Father has sent me, I am sending you.”
As this study comes to a close, consider this same call for your own life.
What’s Next?
Get with your group and discuss how you can live more missional together in the upcoming months.
