Read: Matthew 19:27
The most simple adjustment we can make to create room for a spontaneous, intuitive life is to cut out the things we don’t need to do, opening up time to listen to God’s Spirit (remember, listening to others and God is habit we need to continuously embrace). It’s so easy to get caught in patterns of saying “yes” to everything. Then, when God wants to use us, we either don’t hear him or we’re too busy or exhausted to respond.
Cleaning out the clutter in our lives is especially difficult when good things are taking up our time. The intuitive life-knowing what to keep and what to get rid of-requires that we listen carefully to God as he guides us in creating more space in the margins of our lives. As you think about living on mission as a lifestyle, you are going to have completely rearrange your priorities. But if we are honest and similar to Peter in the passage above, we don’t want to die to ourselves. And if we do, we want to know what’s ultimately in it for us.
One idea is to consider a 2-1-1 rhythm for your group in the future. What does that mean? Basically 2 Bible Study type meetings a month along with 1 meeting as a party to invite neighbors, friends or anyone else you have connected with and 1 meeting to serve together where you see a need.
Prayer Starter: Do something different today. Take 5-10 minutes in silence and just ask Jesus through the Holy Spirit to show you where your priorities may need to change.
