Matthew 12:36-37 Do you ever do things without fully thinking through the consequences? I’ve always loved tinkering with things like computers, so, if I run into problems, I will just start trying random things. Sometimes I fix the problem, and, other times, I just make things worse on accident. There are times when I try to fix things around the house, and, because I’m not a very good handyman, I’ll often break or tear up something else by mistake. Even more so, I often find myself trying to say words that are innocent, but they are really hurtful or damaging. The things we do in life are important, and they carry consequences. Our words carry weight as well. The words we say can be helpful or hurtful. Even if we don’t mean anything by something negative we said, there are still very few things with as much potential pain causing of others as our words possess. The words we say are important. When you gossip about someone, you are tearing them down. When you gossip to other people, you are drawing them into your own dysfunction. With your words, you have the power to make someone’s day or ruin it. Sometimes, like when I’m working to fix a computer, you can do just as much damage when you try to fix a situation than anything else. The next time you are tempted to gossip, take a second to remember that your words hold weight. Remember that what you say is one of the most important aspects of how you live. // TWO-A-DAYS // GO A LITTLE FARTHER WITH YOUR DAILY DEVOTIONS // Go through these questions with your spouse, kids, or friend, or you can even journal about the answers to these questions:
- What was the best part of your day?
- What was the toughest part of your day?
- Where did you mess up today?
- Where did you see God today?
