Read Matthew 6:19-24
When I was in school, I was pretty good at shot put and discus in track. Especially in Middle School, I was always right there to finish first in discus at most meets our team participated in. One of the first things I did every meet was to size up the competition. I wanted to know who my main competitors were going to be. I wanted to know who I needed to worry about. I wanted to figure out who was going to be the guy to beat.
I think we need this same attitude in our lives today. If we are going to live successful and godly lives, we need to know what the main competitors to our heart are going to be. Jesus didn’t pull any punches when He talked about how money would be one of those things we are going to have to worry about.
Jesus said that your treasure is where your heart is. Your money and your heart are connected. It’s because we are tempted to serve money, the things that money can buy, and the lifestyle it can give us. We look at money as the thing that’s going to make our dreams come true. Jesus, though, said we can’t serve two masters. We have to pick who we are going to serve…who we are going to live for. Are we going to serve God or money?
So which is it for you. Do you serve God or money?
