Read 1 Timothy 6:6-10

Most of us like to look at things in either black or white. We don’t want to deal with gray areas. We want to know if something is good or bad, right or wrong, and correct or incorrect. Not much of life is black or white, though. Most of it is gray.

Take money for example. Many people misquote 1 Timothy 6:10 to say that money is the root of all evil. But, money isn’t bad. In fact, it’s not good or bad. It’s neither. The actual quote is “the LOVE of money is a root of all kinds of evil…” Money isn’t bad. It’s not evil to have money or use money. What is bad, though, is when we love it and allow it to consume our lives. Even those who don’t have money and are obsessed with getting it fall into the category of being consumed with it.

Money becomes a problem in our life when we begin to put it into the place that God should have in our lives. When we worship money or make all of our decisions based on finances, we have made it our god. What about you? Is your God your bank account?
