Read Ecclesiastes 5:10-15

Most of us think that if we would win some $50 million jackpot playing the lottery that it would completely change everything about our lives. We think everything would be better. Watching people who won the lottery, though, you find out that it only makes things better for a short while. Most people who win the lottery quickly run out of money. The problem is that winning money just gave them more money to be themselves. It didn’t change who they are.

Money is a magnifier of who we already are. We like to think that if we had more money, we’d give more. But, if we aren’t generous with what we have, we won’t be generous when we have more. If you’re a jerk and you’re poor, you won’t immediately become a great person. You’ll just be a really big jerk with a lot of money.

Money doesn’t change who you are. Money magnifies who you already are.
