Read 1 Timothy 6:17-19

Most of us say we’d be better off if we just had a little bit more. A little more money. A few more things. A little bigger house. Whatever it is we are talking about, we want a little bit more.

Having stuff isn’t wrong. Having money isn’t sin. Evening having a desire for more stuff or more money isn’t necessarily wrong. Becoming obsessed with what we have is what’s wrong. We make bad decisions when it comes to money most of the time because we’ve allowed it to take the place of God in our lives.

We look to money to save us and to keep us “safe and secure.” We look for money to take care of us. We look to money to provide for us and our family. That’s the problem. God wants to be our Saviour. He wants to be the one to take care of us and provide for us and our family. He will use money and material possessions to accomplish that at times, but we begin to sin when we put money in the place of God in our lives.

If you’re honest, who’s your real god? Do you look to God or money to take care of you and provide for you?
