Ephesians 5:1-3 The older you get, the more you are told how important it is to plan for the future. People try to convince you of the need for life insurance, saving up for retirement or college savings accounts for your kids – whether they exist yet or not. All these things are good, but they can be overwhelming, and, if you are anything like me, it can kind of be hard to think and plan for the future. We get so caught up in what’s going on right now in our life that we don’t even want to think of what will come down the road. We figure it’s a future problem that we should just let our future selves worry about. However, even though we can’t get so caught up in planning for the future that we miss out on the life we should be living right now, we will regret it in the future if we don’t do certain things to plan and prepare for the future. When it comes to our closest relationships, we should be planning for the future. Not just by making sure your spouse and kids will be okay if something were to happen to you or that the kids will have money for college down the road, but we need to be loving and serving others to set them up in the best possible way in the future. We need to be an example to others of how to love and serve as God does. The same is true in our marriages.  A loving marriage plans for the future.  It teaches partners to overcome obstacles, work as a team, trust in the Lord, and strives to be an example for future generations.  A marriage that plans for the future requires a choice to love and plan daily.  Imagine the wonderful things that could be accomplished if we all started to make the choice daily to be an example in our faith and marriages for future generations.]]>
