Colossians 3:1-14 In the classic Christmas movie, A Christmas Story, all Ralphie truly wants for Christmas is a Red Ryder BB gun. His mom repeatedly says no and insists that he will “shoot his eye out.” Ralphie is upset with his mom who spoils his fun until he finally get his BB gun, and, predictably, shoots his eye out. Like Ralphie’s mom in A Christmas Story, we look at God as someone who tries to mess us up. He gives us rules to live by and often allows things to happen to us that we don’t like. We look at God as someone who tries to spoil our fun. The fact is, however, God didn’t come to mess us up, he came to pick us up. God sent his Son Jesus to die on the cross for our sin, so we can have life. He gives us rules to live by, so we can live the very best life we possibly can. He allows us to go through hard times to teach us, help us grow, and prepare for the great things He wants to do in our life. So, as you go through this holiday season, don’t think of God as a buzzkill. Think of Him as someone who truly wants to help you live the best life possible.]]>
